Odisha Launches Breastfeeding Centers in Public Places for Women’s Comfort

In a bid to support nursing mothers and promote maternal and child health, the Odisha government is setting up breastfeeding centers in various public places across the state. Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida inaugurated the state’s first breastfeeding center at the Odisha State Commission for Women premises on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.


Key Highlights of the Initiative

- Breastfeeding Centers: To be set up at all railway stations, bus stands, markets, shopping malls, and other public places frequently visited by women.

- Female Attendant: A dedicated female assistant will be deployed at each railway station to assist nursing mothers.

- Cooperation from Businesses: Deputy Chief Minister Parida has sought cooperation from commercial institutions to set up breastfeeding centers and clean toilets for women.

- Health Benefits: Breastfeeding improves child nutrition and reduces risks of breast cancer and type-2 diabetes in mothers.


The initiative was launched during the state-level celebration of World Breastfeeding Week. Alongside the inauguration, the ‘Lok Kalyan’ App was introduced to help social workers collaborate with the State Women Welfare Board.
