The world-renowned Gosani Yatra commenced in Puri, bringing together over 22 magnificent Gosani Medhas, warrior Nagas, and mythological tableaux from historic neighborhoods like Harachandi Sahi and Bali Sahi on the Grand Road (Badadanda) in front of the Lion's Gate.
Dating back to the Ganga dynasty, this unique Puri tradition features Goddess Mahishasuramardini in a solitary, fierce form with her gaze fixed on the demon, uniquely crafted using traditional sola (pith) and jari (tinsel) work.
Resonating with traditional gongs and trumpets, massive crowds have gathered to witness the spectacle. Following the raising of the Mahadipa at Srimandira and ritual offerings (Bandapana) to Lord Jagannath, the tableaux will proceed toward their respective immersion sites.
