A 6-month-old male elephant calf, rescued 12 days ago, has been successfully transferred from Keonjhar to the Chandaka Elephant Rescue Center in Nandankanan.

The calf was initially rescued by the Forest Department from a gorge near Sukadala village in the Shuakati section. Repeated attempts to reunite the calf with its herd failed after the mother elephant refused to accept it. Subsequently, the calf was cared for at the Padmapur Nursery near Keonjhar, receiving timely feeding.

Keonjhar DFO, Dhanraj HD, confirmed the calf is in good health and tested negative for the EHV virus.

The calf was transported safely to the Chandaka center in a special 'Claw Cruiser' vehicle, led by a team from the Bhuyan Juang Peedh range. The DFO expressed optimism that the calf will achieve good mental and physical health living alongside other elephants at the new facility.
