Devotees planning a visit to Srikhetra (Puri) on Wednesday should note that general darshan at Srimandir will remain suspended from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM due to the sacred 'Banakalagi' ritual.
According to the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), this secret beautification service will take place on the 'Dashami' tithi of 'Krishna Paksha' in the month of Kartika, following the second 'Bhoga Mandapa' offering.
What is the 'Banakalagi' Ritual?
Performed in complete secrecy, 'Banakalagi' is an ancient ritual where the facial features and colors of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra, and Lord Sudarshan are refreshed using natural substances and traditional pigments.
Travel Advisory:
Since public viewing will be unavailable for approximately four hours on Wednesday evening, travelers and pilgrims visiting Puri from afar are advised to plan their schedules accordingly to avoid inconvenience.
