The weather system over Odisha is turning aggressive. The low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has escalated into a "well-marked low pressure," prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to warn of intensified rainfall across the state over the next 48 hours.
The system, active over the northwest Bay of Bengal, is moving northwestwards across North Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal. This has triggered an aggressive southwest monsoon, already dumping 5 to 15 cm of rain in coastal and northern regions since morning.
An orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Keonjhar districts, with interior regions also on high alert.
Urban waterlogging and flash floods in low-lying areas are highly likely, threatening to disrupt traffic. The administration has urged citizens to stay indoors, avoid rivers or canals, and strictly follow official weather advisories over the next two days.
