Odisha is making significant strides in urban infrastructure, with 6.77 lakh households now receiving piped drinking water. During Tuesday’s Assembly session, Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr. Krishna Chandra Mohapatra detailed the state's dual-agency approach to achieving universal water coverage.
Currently, the Odisha Water Corporation (WATCO) manages projects across 29 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), while the Public Health Engineering Organization (PHEO) oversees 86 ULBs, serving approximately 4,24,992 households.
In the Rourkela Metropolitan Corporation area alone, 56,731 families have already been integrated into the piped network.
The Minister emphasized that the state government is aggressively expanding these services to ensure every urban resident has access to safe and reliable water.
This large-scale rollout underscores Odisha's commitment to modernizing urban living standards and enhancing public health through sustainable utility management. The mission continues as the state targets 100% connectivity across all municipal limits.
