Today marks the 178th birth anniversary of Madhusudan Das, the legendary "Father of the Odia Nation." His birthplace, Satyabhamapur in Cuttack, is alive with fervor as the state remembers the man who sacrificed international opportunities to dedicate his life to his motherland.
As the first Odia to study abroad, Madhu Babu rejected global prestige to transform Odisha into his workplace. He stood as a "protective shield" during the state's most vulnerable moments, playing a pivotal role in the formation of a separate Odisha province and tirelessly defending the traditions of Lord Jagannath.
While the nation once overlooked these significant milestones, formal celebrations gained momentum following his 150th anniversary. However, mere annual commemorations are but a small installment toward the massive "national debt" owed to this titan.
Today, as Satyabhamapur and Cuttack honor his legacy, Odisha reflects on the indomitable spirit of the man who gave the Odia people their identity and pride.
