The countdown has officially begun for the world-famous Bargarh Dhanu Yatra, which is scheduled to run for 11 days from January 12 to January 24, 2027. The dates and preparations were finalized during a high-level meeting chaired by District Collector Aditya Goyal.
Hailed as the world's largest open-air theatrical festival, the event turns the entire town of Bargarh into a living replica of Mathura, while the nearby village of Ambapali transforms into Gopapur. Streets dazzle with festive lights and decorative arches as artists showcase vibrant folk culture and drama.
The primary attraction remains the massive Kansa Darbar at Hatapada—a grand stage measuring 70 feet high and 120 feet wide—where Maharaj Kansa rules and acts out legendary confrontations with Lord Sri Krishna. A special selection process will soon be held to cast the iconic role of King Kansa.
Drawing tourists from across India and abroad, this unique festival promises another spectacular celebration of myth, tradition, and community performance.
