In one of the largest seizures in Odisha Vigilance history, officials recovered over ₹4 crore in cash during simultaneous raids on Deputy Director of Mines (Cuttack Circle), Debabrat Mohanty. The crackdown targeted Mohanty’s properties in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Bhadrak.
The raid, triggered by a ₹30,000 bribe involving coal transport, revealed a fortune hidden in trolley bags, cupboards, and even an office drawer containing ₹1.20 crore. Beyond the liquid cash, investigators seized:
A two-storey building in Pahal, Bhubaneswar.
130 grams of gold jewelry.
A luxury flat and ancestral property.
Mohanty was apprehended while allegedly accepting kickbacks from a licensed coal trader. As the counting continues, Vigilance teams are scrutinizing additional income-generating assets. This massive haul marks a significant blow to bureaucratic corruption within the state’s mining sector.
