A political storm is brewing in Cuttack as a serious rift post-Rajya Sabha elections threatens to fragment the BJD.
Tensions peaked following the expulsion of the father-son duo, Parvata and Sauvik Biswal, triggering a rebellion among party corporators. Reports suggest nearly 14 corporators are prepared to quit the party in solidarity with the Biswals.
The internal divide was visible when Cuttack-Chaudwar corporators skipped a recent CMC delegation led by Mayor Subash Singh. While rebels like Arvinda Jena and Biswa Bandita Panda slam the "intolerable" expulsions and seek reconsiderations, Mayor Singh remains defiant, claiming the exit of "weakening elements" will only strengthen the BJD.
The ground remains volatile; yesterday, protesters burnt effigies of the Biswals and prominent MLAs, including Sophia Firdous and Devi Ranjan Tripathy.
If the threatened resignations materialize in the next 48 hours, the BJD faces a massive blow to its Cuttack stronghold.
