BIJAPUR: In a major setback to the outlawed movement, 34 Maoists, including seven women cadres, surrendered before the Superintendent of Police in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, bordering Odisha’s Malkangiri.

The group comprised high-ranking members from the DKSJC, Telangana State Committee, and the AOB Division. Notable surrenders included cadres from the Keralapal Area Committee, including DVCM and ACM rank leaders. This collective move towards the mainstream was incentivized by a massive combined bounty of ₹84 lakh previously announced for their capture.

The surrendered rebels cited disillusionment with the Maoist ideology and the state's rehabilitation policies as their reasons for laying down arms. Authorities believe this mass surrender will significantly weaken the insurgent network along the Chhattisgarh-Odisha border. Officials emphasized that this transition marks a victory for peace and local development in the volatile red corridor.
