A viral video from the Nandankanan Zoo Tiger Safari in Odisha has captured social media attention, showing a tiger killing a deer in front of terrified tourists on August 8.
As the footage circulated online, critics questioned how a predator and prey could occupy the same space, accusing authorities of violating wildlife management rules.
However, zoo officials firmly defended the incident. Nandankanan Deputy Director Pradeep Mirase clarified that because the safari is designed to replicate a natural forest environment within the sanctuary, such predatory behaviors are expected. He emphasized that tigers acting on their natural instincts to hunt roaming deer is entirely normal, and no rules were breached.
