Nepal is at a democratic crossroads today as 19 million voters cast ballots for a new 275-member House of Representatives. This landmark election follows the September 2025 youth-led uprising, which saw 77 lives lost and the ouster of former PM KP Sharma Oli.

Currently, a "fast-track" interim government led by Sushila Karki—Nepal’s first female head of government, famously chosen via a Discord poll—is overseeing the transition. Key highlights include:

The Stakes: 165 seats are via direct contest, while 110 use proportional representation.

Youth Surge: Over 1,000 candidates are under 40, reflecting a massive shift toward "Gen Z" political leadership.

Security: 320,000 personnel are deployed to ensure a peaceful process.

With polling open from 7 am to 5 pm, Acting Chief Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari has hailed this as a "historic opportunity" to solidify a transparent, corruption-free future for the Himalayan nation.
