A daring robbery has shaken Nayagarh as miscreants looted gold and silver ornaments worth approximately ₹40 lakh from the Maa Vaishno Devi temple on Jamukon hill. The temple, famously situated inside a 180-foot cave, was targeted during a severe Kalbaisakhi storm.
The thieves took advantage of a power outage caused by lightning, which knocked out the temple’s CCTV surveillance. After breaking the locks of the main entrance, the looters escaped with a massive haul, including:
A gold crown (Kirti) and necklace.
Three silver umbrellas and a silver chandelier.
A ceremonial sword and an unbroken silver lamp.
The theft was discovered early this morning, sparking an immediate investigation. Sharankul police, accompanied by a scientific team and tracker dogs, are currently on-site.
Authorities suspect a meticulously planned operation and are currently interrogating the security personnel on duty. As the community reels from the loss, the hunt for the culprits behind this "storm-shadowed" heist is in full swing.
