A heated controversy has erupted over the proposal to open the temple at midnight on December 31st for New Year celebrations. Mahesh Kumar Sahu, a member of the temple’s management committee, has officially lodged a protest by writing to the Gajapati Maharaj, the Law Minister, and the Chief Administrator.
Sahu argues that keeping the Lord awake for "New Year" darshan violates Sanatana Dharma and age-old temple traditions. He emphasized that the deity should not be subjected to a sleepless night to accommodate a secular calendar change.
"The daily rituals and peace of Mahaprabhu must not be compromised for modern festivities," the letter stated, echoing concerns from various religious scholars. The management committee member has demanded that the normal daily routine be maintained on January 1st, prioritizing spiritual sanctity over tourist convenience. As the debate intensifies, authorities are under pressure to balance devotee expectations with sacred customs.
