A horrific case of dowry death has emerged from Benakanda village, Kendrapara. Surekha Mandal, a mother of a three-year-old, was allegedly burnt to death by her in-laws following years of relentless harassment.

Married for four years to Biswajit Mandal, Surekha’s family claims she was frequently subjected to physical abuse over dowry demands. The tragedy unfolded after a reported dispute late at night; by morning, locals discovered her remains.
Acting on a formal murder complaint filed by the victim's parents, the Tantiapal Samudrik Police have detained her husband, Biswajit. A scientific team has been deployed to the crime scene to gather forensic evidence as the investigation intensifies.
