Odisha is set for a reprieve from the biting cold as the Regional Meteorological Department predicts a gradual rise in temperatures starting tonight. A western disturbance is expected to push night temperatures up by 2°C to 4°C across the state through Wednesday.
While coastal Odisha saw temperatures dip to 10°C recently, most regions will now hover between 12°C and 15°C. This follows an unusually severe winter where G. Udayagiri recorded a freezing 2.5°C and Bhubaneswar dropped to a rare 9°C.
Met officials noted that the intensity of the cold typically wanes after Makar Sankranti. Although the "real winter" feel delighted many after years, the upcoming mercury rise marks the beginning of the seasonal transition. Residents in Puri, Gopalpur, and Bhadrak can expect night temperatures around 13°C to 14°C as the cold wave finally retreats.
