The customary rush and bustling sales associated with Chhadkhai (the end of the month-long period avoiding non-vegetarian food) failed to materialize today, much to the disappointment of local traders.

Traditionally, homes would be preparing non-vegetarian meals, leading to long queues and high profits for sellers.

However, since Chhadkhai fell on a Thursday in the auspicious month of Margashirsha, many households chose to observe the day as vegetarian. By early afternoon, non-vegetarian markets were noticeably empty, with traders waiting in vain for customers.

The situation was similar in the capital, Bhubaneswar, contributing to slow business. Traders, however, are anticipating a major surge in sales starting tomorrow, Friday.

A heavy rush is expected in Puri, where over 500 quintals of fish, meat, and chicken are projected to sell across various markets. Customers, especially at mutton counters, may face long waits tomorrow morning.
