A statewide cold snap has gripped Odisha, with mercury falling across coastal, northern, southern and western districts.
The state’s lowest reading was 5.8 °C in Udayagiri, while Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 13 °C. Shimlipal plunged to 4 °C, and Daringibari hit 8 °C, with Phulbani at 9.5 °C. Night temperatures are 3‑4 °C below normal along the coast and 3‑6 °C below normal inland.
At 5:50 a.m., the capital registered 14.2 °C. Dense fog is hampering transport in several areas, and the Indian Meteorological Department forecasts the cold wave to persist for another two days.
Residents are coping with disrupted daily routines and emptying markets as the chill intensifies.
