An elderly man was killed, and a woman was critically injured in two separate incidents of elephant violence reported today in the Juradanga village under the Kundeigola forest section of Riamal.
The deceased has been identified as Kunj Dehuri (70). According to reports, the elephant fatally attacked him while he was in the field early this morning.
Earlier, Ranjita Behera (35) was attacked by the same elephant just meters from her house around 6:30 AM. She was rescued by locals after her screams alerted them. Ranjita sustained serious injuries and has been admitted to the Chhendipada Community Health Center. The incidents highlight the recurring human-elephant conflict in the region.
