Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krishna Chandra Patra informed the Assembly today that the Weight and Measures Department registered 10,756 cases against traders across the state over the last two years.
Responding to a query from MLA Arvind Mohapatra, the Minister disclosed that the department conducted 312,326 raids. Out of the total cases registered, 153 cases were specifically for cheating ordinary consumers in terms of weight and size, frustrating shoppers.
For all infractions, the government collected a total fine of Rs 3 crore 11 lakh 750, with Rs 23.51 lakh specifically imposed for weight and measure fraud. The remaining 10,603 cases were filed for other departmental violations.
