A devastating pest infestation has shattered the hopes of farmers in Talatanla village, Puri. Over 250 acres of ripe Rabi paddy, ready for harvest, have been reduced to hollow stubble overnight.
Despite following Agriculture Department guidelines and using premium seeds and pesticides, farmers are watching their livelihoods wither away.
The crisis has left many staring at a debt trap, with mounting loans from banks and cooperatives. Distraught locals blame substandard fertilizers and pesticides for the failure, noting that last year’s supplies were far more effective.
In response, hundreds have threatened mass agitation if compensation isn't provided.
The local Tehsildar confirmed that a damage assessment is underway. Furthermore, a joint investigation has been launched to test the quality of agricultural chemicals sold in the market.
While the administration promises aid, the affected families remain in a desperate race against financial ruin.
