The Regional Meteorological Department has issued a high-alert warning across Odisha as a cyclone forms 0.9 km above sea level. From today through April 2nd, the state faces intense rain, lightning, and hailstorms.

An Orange Alert is currently active for Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore, where gusty winds could reach 50–60 km/h. Simultaneously, a Yellow Alert covers 21 districts, including Cuttack, Puri, and Khordha, with expected wind speeds of 30–40 km/h.

The volatile weather will persist, with specific warnings shifting toward southern and coastal districts through early April. Mayurbhanj remains under an Orange Alert for March 28th, while 17 districts face heavy rain on March 31st.

Director Manorma Mohanty has urged citizens to stay indoors during thunderstorms. Avoid seeking shelter under trees, towers, or high structures to minimize the risk of lightning strikes.
