In a major disciplinary move, DG Prisons has suspended Santoshini Dash, the former jailer of Choudwar Mandal Jail, for defying transfer orders. Following a violent assault by two Bihari inmates in October, Dash was transferred to Kantabanji Sub-Jail but reportedly failed to report for duty, citing prolonged health issues.
The suspension adds a new layer to the ongoing controversy at Choudwar Jail. Previously, Dash had accused Superintendent Sujit Rawal of signature forgery following a high-profile prison break. In retaliation, Rawal filed a counter-complaint alleging Dash tampered with government records and misused her official position.
Recent Developments:
One of the escaped convicts, Ramakant Rana, was recently apprehended in Uttar Pradesh.
The public fallout between the Superintendent and the Jailer has triggered a wider administrative probe into the facility's security lapses.
Dash’s suspension is effective immediately pending a formal departmental inquiry.
