The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has implemented new restrictions and closed the theatre hall (Natya Mandapa) of the Konark Sun Temple to tourists.
This major decision comes in response to frequent accidents and injuries caused by tourist carelessness.
Konark, a global heritage site and one of the seven wonders of India, attracts millions annually. Tourists, especially foreign visitors, often climb the theatre hall for photos and to view the main temple. However, a lack of safety fences has led to numerous falls from the stairs.
In an effort to ensure visitor safety, the ASI has erected barricades and closed all four gates of the Natya Mandapa, restricting access to this iconic structure.
