A major fire erupted at the unlicensed 'No Limit' Sky and Lounge restaurant in Satyavihar early Friday morning, raising serious questions about fire safety compliance in the capital.
The fire, suspected to be caused by an electrical short circuit, broke out around 9 am. Seven fire engines from four stations battled the extensive blaze for an hour, Fire Officer Narayan Das confirmed. Fortunately, there were no casualties as the premises were empty of customers and employees.
Das clarified that the top-floor hookah bar lacked any fire safety system, including extinguishers or a water tank. Following the incident, which comes shortly after the fatal Goa nightclub fire, authorities have announced a city-wide fire safety audit for all hotels and restaurants.
Local residents, protesting the frequent issues at the unlicensed bar, have already lodged a complaint seeking its closure.
