Two low-pressure areas have formed over the Bay of Bengal, sparking concerns about potential cyclogenesis. A well-defined low pressure area over the Strait of Malacca and Malaysia is likely to intensify into a cyclone over the south Bay of Bengal within the next 48 hours.
Additionally, a fresh low-pressure area formed this morning (5:30 am) in the adjoining Sri Lankan region and is expected to intensify further in the next 24 hours.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed the development but stated that its impact on Odisha is currently uncertain.
Bhubaneswar Meteorological Center Director Dr. Manorma Mohanty noted that the state is expected to experience dry weather until next week. The IMD will provide clearer estimates on the cyclone's trajectory and potential effects in the coming days.
