Nandankanan Zoological Park has welcomed new residents through an animal exchange program with Surat's Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Zoo, aimed at diversifying the gene pool and aiding conservation.
The new arrivals at Nandankanan include:
5 Otters
2 Gray Wolves
10 Rare Tortoises
2 Pheasant Birds
In exchange, Nandankanan provided a total of 14 animals to the Surat zoo, specifically sending:
2 Royal Bengal Tigers
2 Maned Wolves
3 Four-horned Black Deer
5 Jackals
2 Barking Deer
Nandankanan Deputy Director Sanath Kumar Narayan stated the exchange, approved by the Central Zoo Authority, is crucial for changing the bloodline of resident animals and preserving endangered species.
