Peace returns to Sundargarh as District Magistrate Subhankar Mohapatra announced the lifting of Section 163 of the BNSS in the Regent Market area. The decision follows a successful Peace Committee meeting aimed at de-escalating tensions after recent communal friction.
The unrest, triggered by a rumor, saw two groups engage in stone-pelting, arson, and vandalism, leaving eight people—including two police officers—injured. In response, the administration had suspended internet services for 24 hours to curb the spread of misinformation.
With the situation now under control, the DM has ordered the immediate normalization of internet services. To further foster harmony, a community peace procession will be held through the city.
Authorities continue to monitor the area to ensure stability, while residents are encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement to maintain the hard-won tranquility.
